Pichardo was ordered to pay $9,123 to American Airlines and was placed on an "internal waste list".

A New York woman has been sentenced to four months in prison and ordered to pay damages after interfering with crew members on an American Airlines flight in 2021.

A US district judge has sentenced 32-year-old Kelly Pichardo of the Bronx to four months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to a Justice Department press release.

Ultimately, according to a DOJ press release, the flight had to divert to Phoenix, Arizona, where the women were removed from the plane.

"According to sentencing documents, Pichardo's defense asked for 60 months probation or four months in prison for her,

Arguing that she suffered from various mental illnesses and was active in the 2021 flight.

At the time of the incident, American Airlines said the women's behavior was "disturbing and unacceptable" and that they were placed on an "internal waste list", CBS News reported.

Pichardo's co-defendant, Rodriguez, also pleaded guilty and is expected to be sentenced in November, according to a DOJ press release.
