Coco Gauff's run at U.S. Open ends in quarterfinals

Coco Gauff was knocked out by burning Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Garcia beat the 18-year-old American 6-3, 6-4 to win his 13th game in a row and advance to the semi-finals with Tunisia's Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jaboor on Thursday.

Gauff completed her 2022 Grand Slam event by earning a top 10 spot in the world rankings for the first time.

She became the youngest major finalist since Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004 and the youngest player in the top 100.

17-year-old Serena Williams bid Tuesday to become the youngest American to reach a US Open semi-final since lifting the trophy in 1999.

Her next big target is the WTA Finals in the first week of November in Fort Worth, Texas.

Garcia is the first French woman to reach the semi-finals in a major since Marion Bartoli's stunning run for the Wimbledon title in 2013.
